Born in Scotland, the family moved to Westport, Co.Mayo in 1974. While with Mr Bob Beare in the Cork School of Music, she won numerous competitions such as the Lieder Cup, the Operatic Cup, the O’Shea Perpetual Cup and the Margaret Dillon Award at Feis Maitiú. Opera South and then Opera Cork gave her a start in the world of Opera with roles such as Frasquita Carmen, Estella L’Elisir D’Amore, Sr Genevieve Suor Angelica (with CSM Opera Group), Kate Pinkerton Madame Butterfly. She will perform the role of Valencienne in Opera2005's production of the Merry Widow in June of this year.

Emma Kate then joined with Dr Veronica Dunne in Dublin through the Leinster School of Music to pursue a full time singing career. Master classes in Vienna for two summers and then shows such as “Bewitched” the music of Rogers and Harte in Cork; solo recitals in the Triskel Arts Centre. Various Arts Festivals around the country including Westport and Cork and Summer Concerts in Kinsale of Irish traditional and Classical Music led to a DEMO CD from which came the idea for Aisling na nGael, the album.

Emma Kate is married with three children and also teaches singing to school children.

Emma Kate performs with many choirs throughout the country and enjoys all kinds of classical music as well as having a grá for Irish.

Derek Davis profiled her during a recent programme of OUT OF THE BLUE, and she can be heard to sing Róisín Dubh during the show, TG4 have profiled her on numerous shows and the album Aisling na nGael was reviewed on the arts show with Pádraig Breathnach very favourably.
